What does that mean?
Writing about yourself can be tough. How do you explain your skills in a way that says how good you are but doesn’t seem to boast-y? And for musicians, how can you put into words what only can be defined by listening?
Red Wine Trio’s tagline is “contemporary jazz, reimagined”. What does that even mean? So glad you asked. Let’s break it down together.
We aren’t a jazz trio. I know what you’re thinking, “So why is jazz in your description?” Well, the answer to that is because we don’t really fit into any one genre. Sure, we call ourselves a jazz trio, but that is more because of the instrumentation and interpretation.
Red Wine Trio is a variety trio.
Our typical instrumentation is piano, upright bass, and vocals. Immediately, that gives us stylistic leg up to sounding more like jazz. If we normally had electric guitar or a drum set, it would affect how you hear us.
Let’s dive right into interpretation. Here’s where it get interesting. Yes, we can play jazz standards (especially if that’s what you hire us for), but that’s not where we stop. We play rock, we play funk, we play pop, we play R&B, the list goes on. But have you ever heard “Billie Jean” swung with just a piano and an upright? Let us show you what we mean:
We call ourselves contemporary because we play all the music that you know and love. Adele, Billy Joel, Bruno Mars, Elton John, Emily King, etc. What is your favorite music? Let us know and we’ll play it for you.
One of our favorite things to do is restyle and rearrange tunes. That where the “reimagined” part comes in. It makes every performance entirely unique, and you get to hear songs like you’ve never heard them before. Are you throwing a classy party but really want to hear Blink 182? Don’t worry, we got you.
